BronzeSTAR – Introduction to Lifesaving Sport

The Bronze Star course is an introductory lifesaving program designed to build swimming proficiency, endurance, and essential rescue skills. It also serves as an excellent preparation for the Bronze Medallion course and introduces students to the principles of lifesaving sport training.

What You’ll Learn in Bronze Star:

Stroke refinement & endurance training
Self-rescue techniques & survival skills
Basic lifesaving fitness principles

📌 Prerequisite: Completion of Level 10 swimming requirements (Swim Patrol experience recommended).

BronzeMedallion – The Foundation of Lifesaving

The Bronze Medallion course builds on lifesaving fundamentals and teaches the four pillars of water rescue education:
🏊 Judgment – Decision-making skills in emergency situations.
💪 Fitness – Endurance training for water rescues.
📚 Knowledge – Understanding hazards and prevention techniques.
🛟 Skill – Tows, carries, and release methods for water rescues.

This course develops stroke efficiency, endurance, and lifesaving techniques. Students must complete a timed swim to demonstrate their rescue capabilities.

What You’ll Learn in Bronze Medallion:

✔ Water rescue techniques, including tows, carries, and victim releases
✔ First aid training & emergency response strategies
✔ Timed endurance swim for fitness assessment

BronzeCross – Advanced Lifesaving & Aquatic Supervision

The Bronze Cross course is an advanced training program that builds on Bronze Medallion skills and introduces safe aquatic supervision techniques. This course is a prerequisite for the National Lifeguard certification and lifeguard leadership programs.

What You’ll Learn in Bronze Cross:

Spinal injury management & pulseless victim rescues
Supervision principles for public swimming facilities
Lifesaving fitness & emergency response techniques

📌 Prerequisite: Bronze Medallion certification and Emergency or Standard First Aid from the Lifesaving Society (certifications do not need to be current).
